We have a varied educational system in New Hanover County which meets the needs of anyone who lives here. The public school system is one of the best in the state and is a benchmark system for the eastern part of NC. With a population of varied socio-economic as well as racial mixtures, our system strives to meets the needs of all children.

Within the public system, there are schools of choice in the year round elementary schools as well as the magnet schools which students elect to attend. New Hanover High School offers the highly successful Lyceum program which students enroll in by choice and the Isaac Baer program is offered to students as another alternative for high school students who wish a non traditional approach to their high school years.

For parents who wish to send their children to private schools, there are several private schools which offer education Pre K -12 and numerous more which offer Pre K through 8. An abundance of private schools are available for preschools through kindergarten.

Whatever one’s choice of education for his/her children’s education in the Wilmington area, the resources are here even a great networking of homeschooling parents. So, if you are thinking of moving here, education should not be a factor to prohibit your move.

As a retired teacher, Rainelle Mishoe of rmishoerealtors.com Prudential Burroughs and Chapin Realty will be more than happy to help you find the perfect home and assist you in enrolling your children in the perfect educational situation.

Wilmington, North Carolina has a hospital. Wilmington has many medical professionals operating in a variety of specialties. Fundamental healthcare begins with an individual or family?s access to a general physician, call it a family doctor or for children, a Pediatrician and for women a Gynecologist. Certainly, for people like me, a good therapist; better yet, a Psychiatrist! But why is it that someone in Wilmington, North Carolina cannot locate a physician that will take new patients?
CityBlog Wilmington, was struck by the frustration that was apparent in Susie Pena’s (a Wilmington, North Carolina resident) post on May 9, 2007, which read as follows:
I have been here 1 year this June and have yet to find a doctor that will accept new patients. I am very discouraged that there is no avenue for new residents to find out who is available without a lot of labor intensive efforts.
Does Wilmington have a physician association or, does the hospital know of new physicians coming into Wilmington that are looking for new patients? It would behoove all communities to have some centralized service that maintains a list of physicians who can accept patients as either “new” or on a rotating basis until the new resident can establish regular healthcare.
