We have a varied educational system in New Hanover County which meets the needs of anyone who lives here. The public school system is one of the best in the state and is a benchmark system for the eastern part of NC. With a population of varied socio-economic as well as racial mixtures, our system strives to meets the needs of all children.
Within the public system, there are schools of choice in the year round elementary schools as well as the magnet schools which students elect to attend. New Hanover High School offers the highly successful Lyceum program which students enroll in by choice and the Isaac Baer program is offered to students as another alternative for high school students who wish a non traditional approach to their high school years.
For parents who wish to send their children to private schools, there are several private schools which offer education Pre K -12 and numerous more which offer Pre K through 8. An abundance of private schools are available for preschools through kindergarten.
Whatever one’s choice of education for his/her children’s education in the Wilmington area, the resources are here even a great networking of homeschooling parents. So, if you are thinking of moving here, education should not be a factor to prohibit your move.

I will have to agree to Mrs. Mishoe’s blog on the New Hanover County school system. She was my 7th grade English teacher and definitely knew what she was doing. I hope she doesn’t grade my blog, ha!
